Dr. Shan Mao was born and raised in China - the daughter of a father who was a prominent dentist and the president of the Dental Department of a hospital and a mother who was a respected academic and a school teacher. She was raised with a love of learning as well as a passion for medicine.
For over 25 years, Dr. Mao has successfully treated patients in China, Japan and in the U.S. She understands the profound benefits that the combination of Western medicine and authentic Chinese medicine can produce for a wide variety of ailments.
Her quest for knowledge and adventure led her to accept an opportunity to conduct research in dentistry at the well-known Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan in 1989. From there, Dr. Mao was accepted at the renowned Yokota Orthodontic Clinic and Research Institute in Fukuoka, Japan.
Dr. Mao moved to the United States in 2000 to pursue her love of the American culture and Eastern medicine. She chose to study Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine at the renowned Samra University of Oriental Medicine in Los Angeles and became a Board Certified Acupuncturist and Herbalist. She practices at two clinics – one in mid-Wilshire’s Miracle Mile and one in Encino.
